File Garbage Can For Windows 3.x 04/12/93 REASON Ordinary DOS and Windows file deletes are NOT secure. The file is merely marked as deleted but the data in the file is still sitting on the disk. Any undelete program or disk scan program can access the data on the disk. It remains that way until another file happens to overwrite the disk area. Garbage Can will take care of the security problem that occurs with an ordinary file delete. We GUARANTEE the deleted file can NOT be recovered. VERSION We maintain no version number since we can not seem to keep track of them anyway. We track our projects by date. The date that appears on this documentation and in the 'About' dialog is the release date. OPTIONS The program options can be selected from the menu or by using command line options. The options are: Confirm Delete (Default = On) ------------------------------ A dialog box will appear prior to the file being deleted. You will be asked to confirm that you want the file deleted. When this option is turned off, the file will be deleted without confirmation. Secure Delete (Default = On) ---------------------------- By default, this program will delete a file as designed. By turning this option off, an ordinary DOS file delete will be done. This can save a considerable amount of time in a large file but of course, you give up the security. COMMAND LINE OPTIONS -C Turn 'Confirm Delete' option off. -S Turn 'Secure Delete' option off. -I Start program as inactive icon. You can add these options to the command line in any order or fashion. For example, GARBAGE0 -CS would turn the 'Confirm' and 'Delete' options off. VERSION FOR WINDOWS 3.1 The version for Windows 3.1 is GARBAGE1.EXE and will not run in earlier versions of Windows. GARBAGE1 runs the same as GARBAGE0 but has one added feature. It allows you to 'Drag And Drop' files from the Windows File Manager program on to the GARBAGE1 minimized icon. Any file dragged on to the icon will then be processed according to the way you have the program options set. UPDATES 07/19/91 First release. Uploaded to CompuServe and a local BBS in Salem, Oregon.
